Prithvi Shaw, once considered the future of Indian Cricket, now faces major disappointments. He was a very talented player who became popular with his incredible leadership skills and services for the Indian u19 team. He helped the team secure a major victory in 2018. However, his lack of discipline, unhealthy lifestyle, and unprofessionalism brought him to where he is today.
Despite scoring a massive 3399 runs in 65 innings, an average of 55.7, and a strike rate of 126 – not to forget, 10 centuries, 14 half-centuries, and two double-hundreds – he is not being picked up by any team for IPL. And now, his place in the squad for the Vijay Hazare Trophy is under suspects.
Prithvi Shaw is a talented batsmen, known for his aggressive batting. This setback has majorly disappointed him and the frustration can be seen through his social media posts.
Players have highlighted a lack of professionalism in his attitude in the past. In addition to that, his performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy has damaged his reputation. He was mostly out of form during the tournament and couldn’t match his existing reputation and stats at all.
His struggle with the technique, inconsistent form, and fitness issues as well as off-field controversies top the list of reasons for his exclusion. Another reason for Mumbai to drop him might be to take the players who are more experienced and have a better track record like, Shyres Iyer. Iyer would be leading the team with Surya Kumar Yadav, Shardul Thakur and Shivam Dube. With these names in the team, the management might be thinking that Shaw isn’t fitting the combination. However, the actual reason for dropping him cannot be said.
Ups and downs comes in every athlete’s career. It is about how they accepts their failures and what matters the most is how they move forward from those failures. Prithvi Shaw needs to work on his fitness issues, discipline and his technique to overcome them and make a strong comeback.
