The Champions Trophy will start in February 2025 when eight strong teams of the cricketing world will clash for the title. As much as fans are excited to see these teams competing against each other, they are also sad to see that some strong teams have missed out on the tournament due to qualification criteria. The criteria to qualify for the Champions Trophy was based on their performance in the World Cup 2023. So let’s look at teams that haven’t qualified for the Champions Trophy 2025 and why!
Sri Lanka has a rich history of winning tournaments and has even won a champion trophy once against India. They have the potential to upset any team on any given day. They were likely to play in Champions Trophy 2025 when it was heard that India might withdraw. However, things turned out the other way and they’re not playing. This team is one of the fans’ favourites and will be missed in this tournament.
West Indies was once the most dominating force in the cricketing world but is now unable to qualify for the Champions Trophy. They have five ICC trophies with their name and this team has the potential to beat any team with their momentum. Fans will be missing this team in the tournament for their potential to bring uncertainty to the table.
Other than these two, other notable teams that have missed out on the tournament include Zimbabwe, Scotland, and the Netherlands. They do have the potential to bring any team down but the lack of performance in the World Cup 2023 led to their disqualification from the tournament. The way Zimbabwe defeated Pakistan and Netherlands defeated South Africa in the T20 World Cup, these teams could bring variety to the table if included. However, due to the limitation of 7 teams along with the host for the tournament, they couldn’t qualify. The good news is, we will see Afghanistan playing Champions Trophy for the first time and this is certainly going to bring some passionate amazement into the cricketing fun.
