Legends like Ricky Ponting have admired his game and recently Naseer Hussain also said that he can be part of the next ‘fab four’ including India’s Yashasvi Jaiswal, England’s Harry Brook and Australia’s Travis Head.
During the test series against South Africa, Saim Ayub had an ankle injury while fielding and was diagnosed with six weeks rest. He was sent to London for second opinion, doctors have said that his ankle is intact and soon they will start putting weight on his ankle.
He might come back to Pakistan when his braces will be removed and complete his final stage of rehabilitation before the tournament.
PCB is very hopeful for his return and has placed him in provisional squad of the Champions Trophy considering that he would be back soon. PCB might consider Imam-ul-Haq or Abdullah Shafique as his replacement in case he doesn’t get fit in time.
Saim Ayub, in a recent interview, said that a player’s individual performance can’t make the team win, it’s a collective effort. One player’s absence won’t make a difference.
He also said that he is trying, the doctors are working but how he will feel after six weeks he is not sure. He has asked the nation to pray for his recovery.
He has been an asset for the team and PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi is directly monitoring his case. He has proven himself as an integral player for Pakistan against strong sides like Australia and South Africa in their home series.
His presence in the team will definitely impact Pakistan Team’s performance. And we can only hope and pray that he recovers timely and play his part to help PCT fight for the trophy.
